The Pope Francis Candlelight Fund
Dedicated to the memory of Pope Francis
This Candlelight Fund has been created as a lasting tribute to Pope Francis.
We offer this opportunity and space for you to leave a message of condolence, light a virtual candle and donate in his memory so that, in this year of Jubilee, and in the spirit of hope, Pope Francis’ passion and commitment to justice and equality will continue in our work.
May he rest in peace.
Any donations made in his memory will go to CAFOD's Refugee and Conflict Fund.
Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was ordained a priest in 1969; from 1973 to1979 he was the Jesuit provincial superior in Argentina. He became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and was created a Cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II. He was elected Pope on 13 March 2013 and chose Francis as his papal name in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Pope Francis died on Easter Monday 2025, having dedicated his entire life to the service of the Lord.
We give thanks for his life, and commend him to God’s mercy and love.
